LEGO Castle Adventure!
Builders of all ages are invited to explore, build and play in our newest traveling exhibition – LEGO® Castle Adventure! In this exhibit kids and their families are transported to a LEGO® kingdom where they too can become master castle builders, using one of the greatest building materials of all time –   LEGO bricks.

Visitors will be immersed in castle-life through experiences and activities including:

  • Builders of all ages and skill levels can construct castles, learn about real-world castles and their building secrets, and plan their ideal castle’s defenses. The Builders Guild is divided into three age-appropriate build areas:
    • Apprentice Builders (toddlers) can build using soft foam LEGO bricks.
    • Journeyman Builders (ages 3-6) build with LEGO® Duplo® bricks.
    • Master Builders (ages 7 and up) can create designs with brick paper and then build using classic LEGO bricks.
  • Exploring the inside of the royal castle full of LEGO brick decorations, the king and queen’s thrones and secret passageways.
  • Virtually build a fortress wall on screen and test its strength with a LEGO catapult.
  • Using a colorful array of green bricks, children can plan and create and build their own topiaries.
  • Climb into the lookout tower and defend the castle walls.

    Talking About Tots
    Clinician at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, Laurie Chaikind, MSW, LGSW, will present on “Enhancing Your Child’s Skills Through Connection-Based Play.”  This presentation will provide information on the benefits and how-to’s of playtime that is specially focused on bonding and connecting with your young child.  This specific type of play helps children develop critical bonds with their caregivers, which research shows increases the child’s ability to follow directions, expands the child’s attention span, enhances brain growth and development, helps children learn to self-regulate and calm, and even increases self-esteem while decreasing risky behavior in adolescence!  Come and learn about the science behind connection-based play and have the opportunity to practice with your child!

    Talking About Tots
    Dr. Christine Hess, Psychologist at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, will present “Lullaby and Goodnight: Fostering Sleep for Infants and Toddlers.” She will discuss helpful ways to foster sleep for infants and toddlers.  Sleep deprivation is one of the toughest challenges that parents face when their children do not sleep well.  Fostering good sleep habits when children are very young is a skill that will benefit them throughout the lifespan.  We will discuss bedtime routines, techniques for putting your child to bed, as well as sleep training to help children sleep through the night.
